Catalogue Note

Together with an Extract from the Archives confirming the date of sale to be May 31st, 1898.

The present lot is a fine example of a watch from the Art Nouveau period. The sphinx, executed in high relief, lends a sense of perspective to the enamel work. This enamel style, perfected in Geneva, is typical of the period, combining flinqué and miniature techniques.

For a nearly identical watch by Patek Philippe, see Sotheby’s Geneva, May 15th, 2012, lot 319.
