  • diameter 48 mm
• nickel lever movement, 29 jewels, minute repeating on two hammers, presentation inscription to the 18k gold cuvette • gilt dial, dauphine numerals, subsidiary seconds • case with concealed hinge • dial signed by retailer, movement and case signed by maker

Condition

The movement is running and chiming in phase, however it may require service. The cuvette is engraved with the presentation inscription "Joseph Forest Sherer 1879-1929 From Marion Osborn Sherer for Joseph Forest Sherer Jr." The dial is in overall good condition considering the age. The case shows surface scuffs throughout.

Catalogue Note

With an Extract from the Archives confirming sale on April 2nd, 1929. Together with a fitted Tiffany & Co. presentation box.

The present lot was a 50th birthday gift which was later passed on to the recipient's son, and subsequently the recipient's grandson. The original owner of the piece founded the department store C. T. Sherer in Worcester, Massachusetts, which catered to the prosperous residents of the city.
