Catalogue Note

With an Extract from the Archives confirming sale on December 27th, 1945.

Production of Ref. 570 began in 1938. Its launch marked Patek Philippe's first oversized calatrava model, its case being 0.5 mm larger than its closest cousin, Ref. 565. Ref. 570 was produced in yellow and pink gold, with only 15 examples in stainless steel known.

The present example features a highly unusual dial layout, usually used on Ref. 565 only, and is the only Ref. 570 with this dial to have appeared at auction. It is made further attractive for collectors with its wonderful stainless steel bracelet, signed by Gay Frères, perhaps the best known of the bracelet makers with which Patek Philippe collaborated.
