Catalogue Note
With a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives confirming production in 1991 and sale on July 10th of the same year and a fitted box.
The present example exudes serenity and classical elegance, depicting the interplay between a dragonfly and Nymphoides, a genus of aquatic flowering plants resembling the water lily (Nymphaea). The rich hues of polychrome enamel, a blend of gold, green, pink and purplish tones, create a painterly effect similar to the style of modern Chinese watercolor.
The cloisonné work was executed by the esteemed enameler, Elisabeth Perusset Lagger, whose work can be found on other Patek Philippe solar clocks such as 'The Hunt'. The art of enamelling is reserved for only the most skilled and patient of artisans. The curved panels and dome of a Patek Philippe solar clock present an extraordinary challenge, such that one clock can take weeks to complete. Each piece is a unique work, created with the motif at the client's request.
