• gilt full plate cylinder movement, pierced and engraved balance cock, fusée and chain, diamond endstone in screwed chaton, silver regulator disc, repeating mechanism with two hammers striking on a bell, dust protecting cap, signed Ellicott London • white enamel dial, Arabic numerals, outer minute graduation • pierced and engraved inner gold case, scrolls to the band, back decorated with foliage pattern, the outer case with an enamel en grisaille depicting Leda and the Swan, framed by a serpent in green translucent enamel, bezels with dark blue enamel intertwined by white enamel pattern, framed piercing to the band • enamel scene painted after François Boucher, attributed to a follower of George Michael Moser, inner case with Peter Mounier's master mark, hallmark London 1800

Condition

Movement running while cataloguing, striking mechanism is not functioning, service will be required in the near future for it to be fully operational. Enamel dial with a lovely patina due to aging. Outer case slightly scuffed to the surface, the serpent with over glazed green translucent enamel. Overall, this is a rare and interesting piece from the period in a well preserved condition.

Catalogue Note

The case of the present lot was most probably decorated by a follower of George Michael Moser. Quality, style and composition of painting, after Francois Boucher, surrounded by a serpent as a decorative device, which is typical of Moser's early work, where the vast majority of his cases follow the same decorative pattern.
