Condition
The copper supports are flat and stable, showing no obvious damage. The paint surface is in good condition with slight abrasions to the corners and small, scattered losses in the sky and lower edges. There is some discoloration on the upper left hand side of painting with ships in calm water. No intervention is immediately apparent under UV.

The paintings comprising this pair are two of only four known works by this artist that are signed: one was sold New York, Christie's, 3 June 1987, lot 70 for $22,000, while the other belongs to the Museo de San Martino, Naples.
Abraham Casembrot was born in the Netherlands and settled in Messina, where he held the title of consul for the United Provinces.
