Description

  • Tilly Kettle
  • Portrait of a Boy in Blue
  • oil on canvas

Provenance

With Newhouse Galleries, New York (according to a label on the reverse, as by Allan Ramsay).

Condition

The canvas support, which appears to be unlined, is stable and in good condition. The paint surface is very well preserved and the cobweb craquelure on the sitter's chest and right hand are secure and do not detract attention from the subject. A reading under UV is somewhat impeded by a milky varnish. There are possible old retouches to the background, particularly upper right, though the figure appears to remain untouched. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
