Description

  • Still Life with Game
  • oil on canvas

Condition

The canvas is stable with an old glue relining and is buckling slightly at the upper left and lower right hand corners. The paint surface is in very good condition over all with minor losses localised to the buckled corners and a small loss to the hind quarters of the sitting dog. There is a faint visible stretcher mark in the upper edge. Inspection under UV reveals possible repaired tears, horizontally inward from the upper right edge of approximately 5 inches, vertically in the shoulder of the lying dog of approximately 6 inches and vertically in the upper right section of approximately 10 inches. There is minor retouching to the upper and lower edges, though the animals appear to be largely untouched. The painting would benefit from a light clean and fresh varnish. Offered in a carved gilt wood frame.
