Description

- The Marriage of Joseph and Mary
- oil on canvas
Condition
Relining is firm and stable. under very dirty old varnish. overall, the paint surface has been pressed and the pattern of the canvas weave is apparent throughout most of the paint surface. there are scattered abrasions throughout and numerous, old crudely done repairs to address old damages and these are visible to naked eye. the largest of these is an area that can be seen on the back of Joseph which appears to be over a large puncture. it is difficult to see much under ultraviolet due to the thick old varnish, but most of the old repairs and retouches are visible to naked eye. this painting has not been attended to in a long time. many of these old repairs could be done more skillfully which would improve the overall appearance.
In a carved and gilt wood frame with some nicks.
