coiffé d'une couronne de lauriers, et doté de doubles cornes de bellier de chaque côté, son visage, moustachu et barbu, est encadré de boucles sinueuses
Condition
Very good condition overall with a few minor chips at several places to the edges and tips of his horns, and a few rust stains as can be seen on the photograph (on the back of the catalogue). Some minor surface dirt in the crevices.One loss to the tip of his proper second right horn. Marble very finely carved , can be recommended.

La situation assez modeste de l'art français autour de 1600 se définit par le recours aux modèles italiens, et un nombre croissant de Nordiques venant occuper la place vide en France pour adapter les formes 'bellifontaines' créant ainsi la deuxième Ecole de Fontainebleau. Ce masque de Satyre servant jadis de clef de voûte ou modillon témoigne d'un beau modélé du marbre travaillé au trépan en haut relief et rendant avec virtuosité l'éclat des yeux et les boucles sinueuses de sa barbe.
