Condition

The two stained glass windows are in very good condition overall. It appears that there have been two sessions of minor restorations, one between 1755 -1800, another in 1963 by Ott Frères: In the first session, the black overpaint of the faces, draperies and the octogon appears to have been refreshed and retouched at several places and a few small pieces of glass have been replaced. The old glass elements with wineleaves above the polylobed medallion appear to have been rearranged. In1963, the lead mounts (calme) has been strengthend at several places and both panels have been reinforced by a metal wire running around the edges of the glass. Some of the green glass elements framing the medallion in the center appear to have been replaced. Crucifixion: Possibly some repaint to Christ's halo. St John's yellow dress, paint appears to have been refreshed. A fine hairline crack in his face and to his foot. There is a small vertical white piece to the right ribs of Christ's Corpus, as well as the white frize to the lower end of the Virgin's dress which may possibly have been restored. All lead calme in this panel have been strengthend in 1963 and filled with putty. The lead mount shows some minor cracks to the joints at some places. Very fine pieces in good condition overall.

Catalogue Note
