The tiara composed as overlapping textured laurel leaves, gross weight approximately 41 dwts., accompanied by a signed Cartier box; the card case covered in silk of a floral pattern, the clasp applied with green enamel, measuring approximately 3¾ by 3½ by ½ inches, signed Cartier, Made in France, numbered 3742 and 3716, French import marks, with signed box.
Condition
The tiara appears to be gold over copper; the gold shows spots of discoloration over some of the leaves and spots of lead solder on the reverse where the joints of the "leaves" have been repaired. The card case stamped 935; the silver showing discoloration due to age. Some losses to the enamel at the clasp only visible under close inspection. The embroidered silk in very good condition.

Catalogue Note
According to family legend, the accompanying box originally contained a diamond tiara by Cartier. This tiara was worn by the consignor's great great aunt who, in the company of her husband, John Beresford, 5th Baron Decies, attended to the coronation of George VI in 1937.
