Catalogue Note

The same border design is used on a set of three Soho bacchanalian panels from the collection of Mrs. Wrangham (H.C. Marillier, English Tapestires of the Eighteenth Century, 1930, pl. 10). A similar border, comparable facial types, and drapery can be seen in a Soho historical tapestry from the life of Diogenes, sold by Christie's London, May 16, 1996, lot 214. The figure styl can also be compared with a Mortlake series of Ovid's Metamorphoses (op. cit., pls. 24b, 29b, and 35a).
