A Louis XV ormolu-mounted gilt and black-japanned commode mid-18th century, redecorated and partially remounted

Marble top probably later and with chips and abrasions. With scattered age and construction cracks, dents and abrasions. Redecorated. Lacquer panels with age cracks and losses throughout, particularly to left side, which is now with some lifting and buckling. Losses to gesso at corners and edges. Mounts associated and a mixture of 18th century and later mounts. 18th-century mounts are the central cartouche (very well executed and worked), top handles flanking cartouche, front sabots, chutes and side mounts. Later mounts are section above cartouche, bottom handles flanking carouche, back sabots, foliate-cast mounts on legs between chutes and sabots and mounts outlining legs and apron. All mounts with uniform late 19th/early 20th century mercury gilding.
