Catalogue Note

A drawing by Pierre-Philippe Thomire from 1813 in the collection of the Historisches Museum, Frankfurt, shows the design for this large and impressive mantel clock. However, Thomire must have executed this model the first time prior to 1813, as bills show that  he delivered a clock of this model to the Palazzo Pitti, Napoleon's residence in Florence, in 1812 for the price of 3600 francs. As the present clock is signed Thomire & Comp.ie, it must have been executed after 1819, the year from which Thomire's atelier was known by such name.
