Catalogue Note

The imperial coat of arms of Napoleon III are rendered in meticulous detail on this carpet, complete with an almost tactile ermine mantle and weighty medallion of the Légion d'honneur.   Woven in an unusual round format that together with the quality of the weaving suggest this carpet was created as a specific and important commission.
