of barrel form with ring handles issuing from lions' mouths, engraved on one side with royal ducal arms and supporters, all supported on a pedestal stem and square plinth raised on four reeded ball feet, the lift-off cover with matching finial and crest, removable heating rod and silver sleeve

Catalogue Note

The barrel form of this urn was especially appropriate for the third son of King George and Queen Charlotte, who made a career in the Royal Navy.  In 1823, the year of this piece, he began his second term as Admiral of the Fleet, being named Lord High Admiral in 1828.
