Description

  • Gold, Laquer, Hawksbill Sea Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata)
  • length 3 3/8 in.

oval with tooled gold borders on black lacquer, the cover with a goauche of Venus and Adonis the base with the three Graces.  Together with a Vernis Martin powder box with tooled gold borders, painted on top and base with love trophies on a caramel ground, circa 1775, both lined in tortoiseshell,  2 pieces

Condition

minor border damage to cover mount of first, also needs new pins, other mounts reglued, otherwise good; the powder box with older restoration to cover, spots on base, cracquelure overall
