Catalogue Note

For an 1820 example from the same school, see Krueger, Gallery, Fig. 77. Maria Franklin (1787 - 1867) was the daughter pf prominent New Yorker Thomas Franklin (1762-1830) and Sarah Polhemus (1764-1791). Her paternal grandmother was Deborah Morris (1736-178) of Philadelphia. Sampler maker Ann Hayden is unidentified.
