  • Height 20 1/4 in. by width 23 1/2 in.
Worked in silk, chenille, French knots, pencil and paint on silk; inscribed in the glass By Mary A. Reed 1824.  Retains original rope-twist frame.  Some minor fading, some breaks in sky.

Catalogue Note

Mary Ann Reed (b. 1806) was ninth among the ten children of Jonathan Reed and Dorothy Blake of Westbrook. She married Dr. Cornelius T. Brackett (d. 1539) on June 6, 1828. Attributed to Mary Ann is a related Portland watercolor memorial dedicated to infant laughters of her elder sister, Abigail Reed Brackett (1789- 1847)(See ANTIQUES, August 1976, p. 25-4).
