Gillett & Johnston/George Daniels

11¾-inch dial signed Gillett & Johnston, with outer minute ring enclosing hours dial and seconds dial with later open centre revealing Daniels's grasshopper escapement with ivory pallets and anti-friction rollers to the front pivot of the escape wheel, the movement with screwed pillars, high count train and maintaining power, the separately suspended pendulum with cylindrical bob and roller suspension,  the late 18th Century-style case with flat top, moulded cornice, rectangular trunk door and panelled plinth

Dial would benefit from re-silvering, one fixing screw replaced and one lacking. Movement appears to run but is much in need of a clean. Case is faded and one strip of moulding detached but we have it, overall appearance could be much improved with re-polishing. With brass cased weight and pulley, pendulum, winder, 2 case keys.

George Daniels bought this regulator in these rooms, 19th September 2002, Lot 304. By this date he was finding it increasingly difficult to work on very small watch components and this regulator conversion is one of the last practical horological projects that he completed.  It remained in his workshop at the time of his death.
