Description
- A mahogany two-day marine chronometer, No.3057, Paris, circa 1818
- mahogany, brass, steel
- 21cm. 8¼in. wide
3¾-inch silvered dial with eccentric hours and minutes dial flanked by two winding apertures and beneath an engraved 'S', subsidiary seconds, signed Breguet et Fils, No.3057, the movement with two independently-wound spring barrels, Breguet's form of Earnshaw-type spring detent escapement with cut steel three-arm balance and blued helical spring, the brass bowl gimballed in a mahogany case with brass fittings, the hinged lid with sliding inspection cover, the brass double-ended tipsy winder numbered 3057

Condition
Dial silvering a little dirty and with a stain around the screw within the seconds dial. Movement complete and running at time of cataloguing but would benefit from a clean and fresh oil. Case in generally good original condition with some minor old scuffs, scratches and dents. With numbered tipsy key and a case key.

Sold with Breguet Certificate No. 3255 as a copy of Certificate No.2183 detailing the sale of this chronometer to M. de Villaret de Joyeuse on 9th April 1818 for 1500 Francs.
