Description

  • A small walnut longcase clock, London, circa 1690, movement and case associated
  • Walnut, brass, steel
  • 190cm. 6ft. 3½in. high
9½-inch dial signed Cha Gretton, London, cherub spandrels, engraved date aperture, ringed winding holes and seconds dial, well pierced hour hand, the movement with five ringed and knopped pillars, inside count wheel striking on a bell, the associated and restored case with flat top moulded cornice above a frieze fret, spiral hood pilasters, long trunk door with lenticle, rebuilt plinth, the sides crossbanded and divided into panels

Condition

Dial in good clean condition, minute hand replaced. Movement appears to retain the original wheel work throughout, running at time of cataloguing but may benefit from a clean, lacking movement securing bracket. Associated case has rebuilt hood and base, extensive restoration throughout, many veneer cracks and some minor losses to the moulding. with pendulum, 2 brass-cased weights, winder and case key.
