Description

  • in the manner of John Cuff, English, circa 1745
  • Ray-skin, mahogany, oak, lignum vitae, brass
  • 47cm. 18½in. high
unsigned, the moulded square plinth with drawer, ebonised circular base with concave mirror, three gilt-brass legs supporting a shaped stage, the body of the microscope covered with grey-stained ray skin, inner green card tube and turned lignum vitae mounts, the drawer containing five numbered objectives, sprung slide holder, revolving specimen holder and two tweezers; contained in an oak pyramidal case with brass suspension loop

Condition

PROSPECTIVE BUYERS SHOULD INSPECT PERSONALLY. All very dry and dirty, upper turned section of inner body cracked and unstable, base detached from plinth, old marks and scratches throughout. Out oak case very dirty, lock lacking and area around lock damaged, old marks, minor losses and dents throughout.
