Catalogue Note

In 1760 Reynolds acquired a lease on 47 Leicester Fields (later Leicester Square), a house built in c.1690 which had once belonged to Henry Morland. He entertained many acquaintances there including Dr Johnson, one of his closest friends, assisted often by his favourite niece, Theophilia Palmer who stayed at Leicester Fields from 1770 until her marriage to Robert Gwatkin.
