- A rare marine chronometer, No. 219., Paris, circa 1835
- Mahogany, brass, steel, glass
- 13.5cm. 5¼in. wide
3¼-inch silvered dial signed Hri Motel, Hger de la Marine Rle. Dépot de la Marine, No.219, with seconds dial, the movement signed and numbered as the dial, with substantial cock for the fusee, barrel and centre wheel, geared stop work and remote winding, separate stages divided by polished tapered steel pillars for the remaining wheel train and Motel's pivoted detent escapement, four-arm bimetallic balance with four weights, conical blued steel spring free sprung with adjustable terminal, gold cap to the end stone, the similarly numbered plain brass drum case with shutter at III engraved Remontoire and concealing the winding square; contained in a later stained mahogany case
Condition
Dial in good condition. Movement complete and running well at time of cataloguing but in need of a clean. Brass case with tarnish, old marks and scratches, secret locking now lacking. Later wooden outer case with many scuffs, marks, dents and scratches, one securing screw broken and another replaced. No winder.
