A gilt-bronze-mounted mahogany marble-topped bedside cabinet attributed to Jacob Frères Rue Meslée Empire, circa 1800

with a rectangular mottled white marble top above a frieze drawer and cupboard door enclosing a fossilised Belgium black marble shelf, above a further shelf, the front applied with ribbon-tied fruit-filled cornucopiae on a platform base on brass castors, the underside with the ink stencil mark F99

In overall good condition. The marble top has some stains, water marks and very minor chips but these do not detract from the piece. There are some very minor chips to the marble shelf internally and there is a very minor chip and restoration to the mahogany veneer of the drawer. Some very minor chips to the veneer generally but the mahogany is of good quality.

This piece with the cornucopia on the front, may well have been part of a suite of furniture almost certainly acquired by the duchesse de Dino around 1825 for the château de Rochecotte, thence by descent  to her heir Count Stanislas de Castellane, which was then acquired by Emilio Terry, his brother-in-law, with the château de Rochecotte in 1934, finally sold Christie's London, 12th December 2002, lot 89. The bed was stamped Jacob Frères, Rue Meslée. Also see lot 88, from the same sale with the same Provenance, a commode en suite with two entined cornucopia on the front.
