Folio (280 x 205mm.), hand-coloured architectural woodcut title-page, woodcut illustrations (some full-page), seventeenth-century vellum, title-leaf restored at edges, occasional light foxing, small hole in L1 with loss of one letter, L2 torn and repaired, last leaf repaired at foredge, last few leaves slightly soiled
Provenance
Pietro and Giuseppe Vallardi, booksellers in Milan, label on inside front cover (probably from 1800-1810). The Vallardi bookselling business began in the mid-eighteenth century and became one of the principal cultural centres of Milan; Pietro and Giuseppe were the sons of the founder.

Catalogue Note
This was one of only two books to appear from Bigazzini's private press, and it was four years in the making (the preface is dated 1532 and the privilege 1533). It contains a translation of the first five of Vitruvius's ten books, based on the Italian translation printed in Como in 1521, but claiming to use a purer Italian.
