Catalogue Note
John Brogden along with contemporary jewellers Robert Phillips often looked to antiquity and archaeology to gain inspiration for the subject matter of their jewels. They were so concerned with historical accuracy that they even attached 'small tickets explaining the history of the things imitated' to each piece.
