The hinged bangle of abstract design, inner circumference approximately 130mm, signed AP, French assay and maker's marks.
Condition
Stamped AP for Alicia Penalba and 4/8 for edition 4 of 8. Stamped with French assay marks and 750 for 18 carat gold. Hinge to side with good flexibility. Weighing approximately 143.2 grams. Slightly scratched and tarnished, could benefit from a careful professional clean. In good condition. Accompanied by a pouch.

Catalogue Note
Alicia Penalba (1913-1982) was from Buenos Aires, Argentina and studied there at the School of Fine Arts. She relocated to Paris in 1948 and moved away from the more traditional medium of painting, to work entirely with sculpture. For three years she worked alongside Ossip Zadkine (1890-1967) in his workshop. Zadkine, originally from Belarus came to Paris in 1914 and was highly involved with the Cubist Movement (1914-1925). Penalba was very much influenced by this very structural, abstract and avant-garde artform.
