Description

  • mahogany
each arched cresting rail carved with acanthus foliate to each end above a foliate-carved pierced horizontal splat above a drop-in seat on ring-turned circular tapering legs with tulip collars ending in toupee feet.  Each stamped with Roman numerals.

Condition

Overall good condition; feet reduced in height; nice figured mahogany, lovely color and very nice old surface; crisp carving; chairs are sturdy; appear to retail original drop-in seats. chair stamped XVI with old repaired break to left stile at join with horizontal splat; patches around stiles at join with cresting rail; small patch to back of horizontal splat. Chair X with a repaired split to back right leg and with a plug at join with seat rail; Chair VI with old repaired breaks to tops of stiles at join with cresting rail and with some patches; Chair III with old repaired breaks to tops of stiles at join with backrest and with patches; Chair VIII with a patch to back of backrest at join with right stile. Chair II with two patches to back of cresting rail at join with stiles. Chair VIIII with an old triangular patch to back of cresting rail at join with right stile; top of front left leg with two later plugs at join with left seat rail; top of front right leg with patch at join with right seat rail. Chair XIII with some small chips to back of cresting rail at join with left stile and with some glue residue around join of stiles and cresting rail; carved loop to center of horizontal style replaced; top of front right leg with age crack at join with right seat rail. Chair VII with a triangular patch to back of cresting rail at join with stiles; old repaired break to horizontal splat; top of front left leg appears to have a plug at join with left seat rail. Chair XVIII with old repaired breaks to tops of stiles at join with cresting rail and with patches to back of cresting rail at join with stiles; left stile with old repaired break at join with horizontal splat and with two plugs; old repaired break to horizontal splat;
