Catalogue Note

Artist’s inscription:
Yanbei summons clouds without blowing up dust. A flower-lined stream, chirping birds, and green haze in spring. Nowadays where can one find the hermits Huang and Yi? I envy you, lone traveler in the empty mountains. Standing amidst green pines and misty waterfalls, you look upon the wild horses and leisurely laugh. If in samsara one retains the true thoughts, why is there a need for this mountain? On the thirteenth day of the fifth lunar month in the renyin year (1842), the twenty-second year of the Daoguang reign. After Songxue daoren (Zhao Mengfu, 1254-1322). Yanqiao Zhang Peidun at the age of seventy-one.
