Artist’s inscription:
In Longmen the autumn rains have stopped. The Yao shrubs’ fragrance rise to the sky. The Northern Dipper hangs on the blue cliff. On Heaven Lake white lotuses blossom. The Daoist adept, deep in meditation, sits with folded legs and bears his right shoulder. He enters Bitter Bamboo Forest, and draws water from Cinnabar Spring. Pine flowers fall upon the brazier. The stone pan makes chilling sounds. I wish to learn the techniques of bodily transformation, so I can shed my skin like a cicada and seek after the immortals. On the fifteenth day of the fifth month of the yiwei (1835) year, inscribed by Qian Shumei.
