Inscription:
All day spent in pure enjoyment, amused with water and bamboo, attracted to remote secluded places, the type where orchids grow. I have gathered together copies of the Orchid Pavilion Preface for the elegant enjoyment of Mr. Liren, my examination year-mate.  Menglou Wang Wenzhi.

Liren refers to Jiang Yu, literary name Liren, studio name Yuanhe Daoren, from Chao County, Anhui Province. He was active in the Jiaqing and Daoguang periods of the Qing dynasty. He lived in Suzou. He was a highly skilled painter of flowers, in which he followed the styles of Chen Daofu and Xu Wei, and he was also good at painting birds. When he was young he spent time with Zhang Yu, from whom he learned his painting skills. He was known to spend time at the Yu Studio of Liao Yuncha, where they fended off the winter chill by drinking wine and discussing painting.
