Description

  • porcelain
heavily potted with rounded tapering sides, the exterior painted with ducks swimming amongst a lotus pond with waterweeds, all below a foliate scroll with ruyi motifs, the top of the rim encircled with a further foliate scroll band

Condition

This brightly painted jardiniere has a break 4.5cm., above the foot encircling the lower body which had two old metal rivets and several old repaired rivet holes, a 56cm., long C-shaped hairline rim crack extending down the body which has four metal rivets and an associated 8x10mm rim chip, a 43cm., long vertical rim crack extending down to the break at the base with two old metal rivets, a 28cm., C-shaped rim crack with one old metal rivet, other minor cracks and two rim flakes (1,5 and 1cm., long), minor scratches and glaze firing imperfections.
