Description

based on archaic bronze form, the flattened globular body rising from a stepped foot to a waisted neck, carved with a phoenix head beneath the curved spout with its wings extended to the side of the vessel, the plumage detailed with archaistic motifs, the scroll handle entwined with a chilong clambering up over the rim, the chilong mask at the bottom of the handle and the phoenix head each with a loop suspending loose rings, the stone of an even greyish celadon tone with russet veining

Condition

The ewer is in very good condition with the exception of some tiny nicks to the rim. It should be noted that the stone is of a slightly more celadon tone than the catalogue illustration would suggest.
