A RARE 'TIXI' LACQUER BOX AND COVER LATE YUAN/EARLY MING DYNASTY, YANG MAO MARK

of circular section with a flattened top, the cover with swirling classic scrolls extending down the sides revealing alternating layers of red, black and yellow lacquers, the interior and the recessed base lacquered black, incised to the base with a three-character mark reading Yang Mao zao (made by Yang Mao)

Bought in Japan, 1961.

Condition

This box and cover is in good condition, but does have a 2cm by 0.5cm area of restoration to the rim of the base. There is also a 0.8cm by 0.3cm area of restoration to the rim of the cover. There are also various cracks to the rim of the base and the cover and some cracking to the interior surfaces of both the cover and base.
