the two elements forming the buckle both finely detailed, carved in openwork to depict a sinuous chilong amidst lingzhi sprigs, the back of each with a circular knob for attachment, the hook in the form of an archaistic truncated dragon head, the semi-translucent stone of an even tone; together with a pale celadon jade belt hook with a chilong along the shaft confronting a dragon head terminal, cicada wings on the reverse (3)

Provenance

Acquired in Japan between 1947 and 1952, and thence by descent.

Condition

There is a small nick to the interior of the aperture where the hook is inserted otherwise the belt buckle is in good condition. The belt hook has a chip to both ears and the expected minor nicks to the extremities.
