comprising a carving of He Xiangu; a reticulated plaque of flying cranes; a pendant of two squirrels on a grape leaf; a pendant of two gourds; a group of lions; a rectangular pendant with a monkey inscribed on the reverse with wen shi guan shan bu xi ping (literature should be lofty like mountains, do not delight in the ordinary); a pendant with a dragon and phoenix; and an archaistic gu-form pendant, fitted box (9)

Provenance

Acquired in China in the 1920s or 30s and thence by descent.

Condition

The carving of He Xiangu has scattered minute nicks. The reticulated plaque of flying cranes has small nicks and polished chips to the edge. The pendant of two squirrels has a small bruise to the tip of the grape leaf. The pendant of two gourds is in overall good condition. The group of lions have a chip to the adult lion's ear, head and leg. A polished chip to the base. The rectangular pendant has two nicks and polished chip to the edge. The pendant with a dragon and phoenix has two small bruises to the dragon's head. The archaistic gu-form pendant has two minute bruises and nicks to the edge and a chip to one of the lower flanges.
