the hu-form vase delicately carved in shallow relief with a taotie band between cicada lappets around the base and a ruyi band encircling the shoulder, the mouth incised with key-fret and further cicada blades, the waisted neck flanked by a pair of elephant-head handles, the domed cover carved with further key-fret and ruyi band, surmounted by an oval ring finial, the stone with cloudy white inclusions and speckling, wood stand (3)

Provenance

Acquired in New York in the 1930s and thence by descent.

Condition

There vase and cover have been glued together. There are small chips to the rims of both vase and cover. A fissure along one edge towards the base has been glued. There are small nicks along the base and some glue residue where the wood stand was once adhered. The surface with general wear and some scratches.
