modeled after the archaic jade prototype, the body of square section rising from a short straight circular foot to a tapering circular neck with a lipped rim, molded with the ‘Eight Trigrams’ to each of the four sides, covered overall in a lustrous pale celadon glaze, six-character mark in underglaze blue
Provenance
Collection of the Rev. and Mrs. William R. Johnson, missionaries in China from 1920-1939 and thence by descent.
Condition
There is a Y-form crack to the rim which runs down the neck and to the body, where it terminates in an X-form at the top of the body. There is a small glaze flake on the rim. a little chip to the foot, a small glazed over circular adhesion on one side, a few minor glaze pulls and some scattered iron spots and on the body.
