the large, deep cup carved as a mallow blossom supported on an intricate openwork tangle of wutong, prunus, magnolia and pine trees, incorporating figures of the Hehe twins and Su Wu the goat herder, the horn of a pale honey color darkening towards the tip, the wood stand pierced and carved as pine, wutong and lingzhi issuing from pierced rockwork supporting two goats (2)

Provenance

Acquired circa 1900 by a member of the Pearce family of Providence, Rhode Island, and thence by descent.

Condition

There are losses to sections of the rim with associated cracks. There are also some small patched holes and age cracks, as well as small losses to the reticulated carving. The stand has some old small chips.
