- rhinoceros horn
carved as an open peony blossom with overlapping petals, borne on a curling branch that forms the openwork base, with secondary leafy flowering branches that extend up the sides, some forming the handle, the material of a deep amber color darkening towards the base

Acquired circa 1930 and thence by descent.
Condition
The rim with a polished down chip, a consolidated split and some minor nicks. The interior with some small areas of pitting, otherwise in good condition.
