Description

  • bronze
of compressed globular form below a short waisted neck with flat wide rim and standing on three short cabriole legs and applied with two loop handles issuing from  animal masks, the bronze with a dark brown patina decorated with irregular gilt splashes, the base with an apocryphal six-character Xuande reign mark in relief, with wood stand and cover (3)

Collection of Dr. Louis Livingston Seaman (1851-1932). 
Given by Dr. Seaman to John Karl Moffett and thence by descent.

Condition

There is wear to the bronze patina and the gilt, particularly around the rim. There are several small scratches and knocks to the base of the feet. Otherwise the censer is in good condition.
