Description

portrayed seated in dhyanasana on a double-lotus pedestal with beaded edges, hands held in dhyanamudra, wearing a dhoti and scarves with chased floral hems, adorned with elaborate jewelry, the full serene face framed by pendulous ears and five-leafed tiara fronting a tall top-knot, all between two lotus stalks issuing from his hands and rising to the shoulders, one supporting a book, a small snow lion crouching in front, wood stand (2)

Provenance

Ronald Langton-Jones, acquired in Tianjin, China, circa 1900, and thence by descent.

Condition

The sword supported by the lotus on the figure's left is missing. Traces of gilt-lacquer remain on the surface. There are some small holes on the pedestal, some which have been filled. There are some chips to the edge of the base. The base plate is missing.
