Description

  • porcelain
delicately potted, the shallow rounded sides rising from a straight foot, the exterior finely incised with a band of pomegranate scroll, the undulating stem bearing leaves interspersed with fruit, the interior undecorated, applied overall with a translucent pale aubergine glaze, the base glazed white, six-character mark in underglaze-blue within a double-circle, with wood stand (2)

Condition

The rim has two very fine short haircracks, both extending slight further on the interior than the exterior. There is a very small shallow chip to the underside and edge of the footrim. Otherwise in good condition. Please note the glaze is of a soft aubergine tone and not as dark or as red as in the catalogue photograph.

A similar example of this dish is illustrated in The Museum of East Asian Art Inaugural Exhibition, vol. I - Chinese Ceramics, Bath, England, 1993, no. 205 where the catalogue entry notes that dishes of this color and design were supplied to the Qing imperial palace in 1729.
