of square section, comprised of two tiers of eight reticulated frames, the upper section with central florets on an openwork foliate ground above square frames inset with ogival foliate openwork, the larger lower section similarly decorated but with a band of pierced  'T'-scrolls along the interior of the frames

There is wear to the lacquer overall, and various areas of touch-ups. There are separations along the joins, and one area of repair in one section of the lower body with associated touch-ups. There is wear and loss to the lacquer on the feet of the lantern.
