woven in mirror image of a pagoda rising from a crested waves with dragons emitting sprays and a bird hovering above, all between floral scrolls, enclosed on two sides with bands of key-fret and auspicious emblems, and with a lishu border along the upper and lower edges, an inscription Zhonghe Dian beiyong  (Made for use in the Hall of Central Harmony) to the top

Condition

In overall good condition with typical wear. The lower half has slightly faded. The back has been sewn with a piece of fabric to create a wall hanging fixture.

The Hall of Central Harmony is located on the central axis in the Forbidden City, between the Hall of Supreme Harmony and the Hall of Preserved Harmony. Closely related carpets were sold in our London rooms, 10th November 2004, lot 554, and 5th November 2008, lot 174.
