Condition

Overall the condition of the amber is good with dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is a loss to the right side (presumably a tree trunk and part of the ground). There is a stable split/ groove to the left side of the back.

Catalogue Note

The woodland backdrop to this religious scene is stylistically and conceptually comparable to two large amber groups with The Judgement of Paris and Perseus and Phineus by Christoph Maucher in the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (inv. nos. 859 and 858).
