  • Christ from a Deposition group
  • polychromed wood, on a wood and metal base
  • South German, 18th century

Condition

There are several losses to the fingers of Christ. There are areas of restoration to the index finger and elbow on the proper right arm. Joints are visible at the proper left wrist and proper right knee. There is surface dirt throughout. There are a few losses to the paint including at the proper right knee. Some areas of paint, including the proper left shoulder and nose may have been retouched. There is wear including scratching to the top of the base. There is warping and stable splitting to the veneer on the base consistent with material and age, particularly to the corners at the feet and head of Christ. There are several small losses to the corners, some of which have been restored. There is warping to the pine wood on the underside, making the base slightly unstable.
